Central Square Florist will participate in the 3rd Annual Central Square Clean up. The clean up will take place Friday May 18th from 9-11 am rain or shine. The event is sponsored by the Central Square Business Association (CSBA) and the City of Cambridge Public Works. David Levine from Central Square Florist who serves on the board of directors of the Central Square Business association has helped plan the event though the CSBA Environmental committee that he serves on.

Central Square Florist will provide table flowers for the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce Excellance in Business awards. Each year, the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce recognizes the outstanding achievements of Cambridge-area businesses with the Excellence in Business Awards. Six awards are presented to exemplary companies, organizations or individuals who have made an impact on the City of Cambridge and Chamber of Commerce in the past year. The keynote speaker for the evening will be Douglas Foy, who served as a consultant in the development of the Cambridge Energy Alliance project. He will speak about this exciting initiative to significantly reduce energy use in Cambridge and improve the environment by providing technical and financial assistance to Cambridge businesses, residents, and institutions. Foy has identified that cities are the entity to address the world’s major environmental problems. The Cambridge Energy Alliance has been designed as a model for other cities and Foy will discuss the important role the business community has in making this project a success. Start Time: 6:00 p.m.

John Durant received his BA in Natural Sciences from Queens’ College, University of Cambridge in 1972 and went on to take a PhD in History and Philosophy of Science, also at Cambridge, in 1977. After more than a decade in University Continuing Education (first, at the University of Swansea in Wales, and then at the University of Oxford in England), in 1989 he was appointed Assistant Director and Head of Science Communication at the Science Museum, London and Professor of Public Understanding of Science at Imperial College, London. In 2000, he was appointed Chief Executive of At-Bristol, a new independent science centre in the West of England. He came to MIT in July 2005, to take up a joint appointment as Director of the MIT Museum and Adjunct Professor in the Science, Technology & Society Program.
