Flower crowns are a beautiful accessory for a special event. Flower crowns are perfect for the birthday girl on her special day. Brides wear flower crowns on their wedding day. Flower girls look so adorable walking down the aisle with a halo made out of flowers atop her head. Graduates wear flower crowns to their graduation ceremony. This past graduation season we made a crown for a graduate of Tufts University in Medford and Boston University in Boston. Flower crowns represent love and celebration and add so much beauty.
Flower crowns can be made with a variety of different types of flowers.
Spray Roses: The most popular flower for the crowns is spray roses. These are available in a variety of colors such as white, pink, yellow and red. Spray roses have small enough blooms to fit nicely on a crown
Ranunculus: Ranunculus is a beautiful bloom and its size fits nicely on a crown. Like spray roses it is available in a variety of colors. Ranunculus can be pricier than spray roses. Opt to mix spray roses and ranunculus together to create a cute crown.
Mini Gerbera Daises: Mini gerbera daisies are a fun flower. Available all year round in mixed colors.
Baby’s Breath: Baby’s breath, also known as Gypsophila is a white accent flower. Some opt to mix baby’s breath with flower blooms on their crown. Others opt to wear a crown of simply baby’s breath. Below there is a photo of a flower crown of white spray rose and baby’s breath modeled by me.
Ruscus: A simple greenry. Can be worn on its own or as an accent to other blooms. It is common to cover the wire of the flower crown in ruscus before adding blooms.
Opt for bigger blooms mixed with the smaller blooms. Dahlias are a larger bloom, but not overwhelmingly large. They can add dimension to the crown and unique texture.
