‘Beautiful in Blue’
Happy almost Hanukkah! Hanukkah, or the Festival of lights, lasts for eight nights. This year, Hanukkah takes place December 8th-16th. On Hanukkah we light the menorah and are reminded that even in darkness, there is light. Basically, on Hanukkah the Jews are celebrating two miracles. The first, they recall and honor the re-dedication of the holy Temple in Jerusalem in response to the Jewish victory over the Syrian-Greeks in 165 B.C.E. Wondering why the Jewish people light the menorah on Hanukkah? Well, that is the second miracles the Jews celebrate. The menorah reminds them of the miracle of the Hanukkah lights. One day worth of oil ended up burning for eight days after the Maccabees reclaimed the holy Temple. Pretty cool, huh?
