How do you pick the best flowers for all of the loves in your life on Valentine’s Day? That’s a question that Jackie Levine, Vice President of Central Square Florist in Cambridge, Massachusetts is happy to answer.

“Sometimes for Valentine’s Day you think, go classic with red roses, but there’s other options too, depending on the person and what they might like,” she says.

Different blooms, colors, and bouquets can send different types of messages, thanks to the language of flowers, as noted by Levine. “People do feel that red roses are maybe a little bit stronger of an emotion,” she continues. Levine also pointed out that arrangements featuring other hues, such as pinks, express a more subtle sentiment.

The spirit of the occasion is expansive, encompassing many kinds of love, according to Levine. “Valentine’s Day is not just a romantic holiday,” she says. “People send to their friends, their children.” So if you have a college student in Boston you’d like to surprise, Central Square Florist has plenty of options.

As for tips to keep in mind for your Valentine’s Day 2026 shopping, Levine has some advice. “Definitely order early, give your florist ample notice,” she adds. “Get your order in so you know you’re all set. You wouldn’t want to forget Valentine’s Day!”

Levine also encourages folks not to be afraid to shop for themselves this holiday. “You can buy yourself flowers, absolutely,” she concludes.
