Earlier this month, we at Central Square Florist had the opportunity through the Combined Cambridge Business Association of attending a meeting at the Cambridge Police Station. At the meeting, the Cambridge Police and Fire Departments gave a combined presentation on “Response to Catastrophic Events”.

The meeting came about in response to the major catastrophe along the eastern seaboard in the form of a terrible storm, Sandy, which left many communities in various states unprepared to handle evacuation and care for their citizens back in October 2012. Additionally, it also referenced when the City of Cambridge had three quarters of the power go out towards the end of November 2012.

At the meeting, the police and fire departments explained how they respond to incidents accordingly in order to handle situations correctly. We learned how the police, fire, and EMTs work together in order to respond successfully  Further, they explained if the city’s (Cambridge) resources are maxed out they are able to reach out to other surrounding communities for backup.
