February is National Wedding Month, affording couples nationwide the opportunity to celebrate their special day during the most romantic month on the calendar. Here in Cambridge, February is not even close to a top choice for wedding ceremonies to take place, (June, August and September top that list nationwide). So how exactly did February earn the title of National Wedding Month? Here at Central Square Florist, we have a few ideas.
February may not be popular for weddings overall, but February 14th does register as one of the most coveted days of the year to tie the knot. Given its significance and romance, Valentine’s Day is a frequent choice for engaged couples, even when, like this year, it falls on a weekday. But keep this interesting fact in mind – over the years, your loved one may begin to feel a little slighted. Ask any child born on Christmas Day – people often “combine gifts” and even use the holiday party as an excuse to not have a birthday party. If you get married on Valentine’s Day, consider separating the events into two distinct celebrations. Choose a different day to celebrate, or simply celebrate twice in one day – roses with breakfast, and orchids to accompany a romantic dinner!
The holiday also seems to inspire the romantics to pop the question, and Valentine’s Day sees approximately 6 million engagements annually. However – and this brings us to the main reason that February is National Wedding Month – the majority of marriage proposals happen over Christmas and New Year’s Day. According to the National Association of Bridal Consultants, newly engaged brides begin serious wedding planning in the month of February, once the holiday excitement has died down.
