September Asters

asterFall is here, but that doesn’t mean that floral displays have to be any less brilliant. The September birth flower is the aster, a bright bloom which will add a burst of color to every arrangement it graces. The aster, so named after the Greek word for “star”, has a visage that lives up to its name. Speaking of names, the aster actually has many – it is also known as a starwort, frost flower or Michaelmas daisy. But whatever you call it, your birthday honoree will love it!

Asters resemble daisies, and are a member of the sunflower family. You can find aster blooms in white, pink, purple, blue and red; but regardless of hue, the middle of every aster is made up of bright yellow flowerets. Asters come in nearly 600 varieties ranging from several inches to over two feet tall. Regardless of the species, asters are well suited for flower arrangements and bouquets.
